The Management of Sickle Cell Disease Symposium is designed for nurses, health care professionals, providers, researchers, educators, social workers, students, individuals with sickle cell disease and their families and the community at large.  The purpose of this educational activity is to strengthen participant’s knowledge base about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait through lecture, discussion and sharing of current and future treatment regimen.

World Sickle Cell Day

June 19th was officially designated as World Sickle Cell Awareness Day on 22nd December 2008 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution that recognized sickle cell disease as a public health problem and “one of the world’s foremost genetic diseases.” World Sickle Cell Day is a United Nation’s recognized day to raise awareness of sickle cell at a national and international level. The international awareness day is observed annually with the goal to increase public knowledge and an understanding of sickle cell disease, and the challenges experienced by patients and their families and caregivers.

In a drive to find innovative solutions and instill a collaborative approach to understanding Sickle Cell Disease, FSCDR holds its Annual Sickle Cell Disease Research and Educational Symposium. For 13 years now, with participation from the world’s leading physicians, scientists, public health professionals, researchers, patients, and caregivers, the Symposium has proven itself an essential platform for the evolution of SCD treatment. A multifaceted approach to finding a dependable cure is paramount, as it stimulates new therapies while informing international members of the latest findings.

The SCDAA Annual National Convention is a four-day conference designed to address the multi-factorial aspects of sickle cell disease. In an effort to advocate for improved quality of life for individuals and families affected with sickle cell disease and its associated morbidity and mortality, the conference fosters the exchange of the latest scientific and clinical information related to the disease. This is done through the offering of innovative symposia, training seminars and interactive panel discussions. In addition, this year’s convention offers an array of exciting activities designed to educate and motivate the entire community to get involved in the fight against sickle cell disease.
